The Story Behind the Song
“With a Little Help from My Friends” was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney in 1967 specifically for Ringo Starr to sing on the landmark album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
The song's story is less about romance and more about friendship, support, and belonging. Lennon and McCartney wanted a song that suited Ringo's warm, everyman personality and limited vocal range. They deliberately wrote it in a key that would be comfortable for him to sing.
In many ways, the song is a celebration of the friendship that helped sustain both the fictional Sgt. Pepper band and the real Beatles themselves.
