The Story Behind the Song
The story behind Let It Be by The Beatles is actually pretty personal and a bit emotional—especially for Paul McCartney.
Paul wrote the song during a stressful period in the late 1960s when the band was starting to fall apart. There were creative disagreements, business issues, and personal tensions among members. Around that time, Paul had a dream about his mother, Mary McCartney, who had died when he was a teenager.
In the dream, she came to him during a difficult moment and reassured him, saying things would be okay—basically telling him to “let it be.” That phrase stuck with him, and when he woke up, he felt a sense of calm he hadn’t had in a while. He turned that feeling into the song.
