The Story Behind the Song
“Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)” was inspired by singer and actor Gene Autry during the 1946 Hollywood Santa Claus Lane Parade in Los Angeles. As he rode his horse in the parade, he heard children excitedly shouting, “Here comes Santa Claus!” over and over while waiting for Santa’s arrival. The phrase stayed with him, and he decided it would make a perfect Christmas song.
